Why Rome is a Top European Destination

Dubbed the Eternal City of the Seven Hills and the Vatican, Rome is the capital of Italy, and rightfully so between the Mediterranean climate, breathtaking ancient architecture, the finest and largest churches in the world, mouth-watering food and not to mention, the best shopping in the world. Rome is at the top of our list as the best places to see in the world because no matter how long or how short your trip is, there's so much to do and see.

Things to Do in Rome

No matter how much pasta and gelato you end up eating, there's plenty to do that will keep you busy and constantly moving. If you're a history buff or just enjoy traveling back in time there are plenty of ancient, medieval, Renaissance and Baroque historic sites to satisfy any traveler. You can hop on a bus and in one swoop see the Colosseum, the Forum, Il Vittoriano, and the Pantheon. It's also easy to venture off and visit Trajan's Column and the Catacombs. Of course these must-see stops are on many tourists' routes, but these are ones that you absolutely can't miss. If you're in Rome towards the end of the month, then you should take advantage of free entry to The Vatican Museums on the last Sunday of every month, from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. But make sure you get there early because the last admission is at 12:30 p.m. If you're just stopping in the city for a short time, then the main attractions you have to see before leaving would be St. Peter's Basilica, the Spanish Steps, Trevi Fountain, Palatine Hill, and Michelangelo’s Piazza del Campidoglio.

What is there to do besides visiting popular sightseeing locations?

Well first off, there's a number delicious eats that you have to try. Besides having to take a bite of every kind of pizza you can get your hands on, Carbonara is one of the best pasta dishes you'll ever eat. After pizza and Carbonara, we would say that other food you have to try is Suppli al Telefono (also known as deep-fried rice balls with a gooey mozzarella center), Bruschetta, any dish with artichokes in it and of course, our #1 favorite food in Rome is Gelato!

When you're done stuffing your face with the most amazing dishes ever, you can work off your meal by browsing (or purchasing) some of the best designer clothes in the world. For top designers like Prada, Valentino, Gucci, Fendi, Missoni and Armani, you should go to the area around Piazza di Spagna. Armani, Hermes, Cartier, Ferragamo and Battistoni can all be found on Via Condotti, which begins at the Spanish steps, and if you want even more fashion, then strutting down Via Borgognona should be your next plan.
